Sustainable development is a significant issue in Ireland. Identifying perspectives of disparate stakeholders helps tease out the most prevalent issues and solutions, as well as underpin effective communication to facilitate dialogues around environmental policies.
This opinion stream captures the most prevalent perspectives around sustainable development from literature and opinions of Irish ‘green pioneers’- stakeholders who are actively engaged in sustainable development. Stakeholders include local authorities, NGOs, green businesses, and research institutions. An analysis of opinion stream with diverse stakeholders shows a typology of six distinct perspectives around sustainable development in Ireland. These perspectives are shared modes of engagement rather than corresponding to specific stakeholder types, illustrating the need for heterogeneous stakeholder communication.
